Architectural Envy: People's Meeting Dome, Denmark

In running an independent boutique/concept store, we often find ourselves scouring the internet and blogosphere to see what fresh new ideas are emerging in the worlds of art and design. If you're reading this post, you probably share many of the same ideas and aesthetic interests as us, so we figured why not share our findings and show some fellow blogger love? This week we're pretty amped on an architectural masterpiece known as the People's Meeting Dome, a space created to host a Danish symposium on the future of housing.

Designed by Kristoffer Tejlgaard and Benny Jepsen, this architectonic wonder centers around a steel, wood, and glass geodesic dome that can be disassembled and rebuilt elsewhere, as well as modified in shape and size to accomodate its setting. The architects explain their design as a modern twist on the "anti-architecture" structures of the '70s. Playlist of the Week: Rainy Daze

Talk about a tease: somehow a forecasted week of sunshine and temperatures in the 70's has turned into grey skies and an incessant cycle of fog and drizzles. It's definitely not our favorite weather, but if nothing else these showers serve as the perfect excuse for some chill time at home. With that in mind, kick back and relax with our latest mix, a blend of cool and calm tunes we like to call "Rainy Daze."

Ladies, Say Hello to Humanoid

Left: Little Dress in Phantom Right: Hammie Dress in Silver
According to founders Sandra Harmsen and Hans Boelens, there is no philosophy behind Weeverstraat-based cult label Humanoid. Their "pleasantly unruly" functional designs incorporating structural fabrics and early 80's new wave/punk detailing "just happened," they explain. Indulging her gut sense of freedom, current designer in chief Cecile Bleijenberg's organic approach to fashion makes for collections that seamlessly blend from one season to the next. Fine cashmere and wool blends feel exquisite on the skin, while a knack for drapery creates pieces that feel washed and worn in the best way. Humanoid has hands down some of our favorite womenswear right now, and their relaxed tweed dresses and tunic style sweaters are the perfect transitional pieces for early Fall. Pass that Dutch.

Say Bonjour to Ba&sh

Left: Aerosmisse Jacket in Black Right: Mars Sweater in Saffron
With their simple yet sophisticated separates and dedication to detail, Parisian label Ba&sh is a brand you'll want to watch. The brainchild of friends Barbara Boccara and Sharon Krief (Barbara & Sharon... see what they did there?!), the French design duo seeks to provide women with a glimpse into their "ideal wardrobe," offering knubby knits and understated dresses that epitomize the notion that less can be more. Many of their pieces are twists on classics, imparting subtle patterning and interesting textures to familiar closet staples for a fresh, new look, and their eye for high quality textiles makes for pieces that you'll want to wear day in and day out. We are proud to state that Flying A is currently the exclusive Ba&sh retailer in the United States.
