Wrap Game: Our Favorite Scarves

With New York temperatures in the 70's one day and the 40's the next, getting dressed in the morning can be quite the challenge. You know the situation: that snuggly shearling bomber jacket seemed like a great idea in when you left your apartment in the early morning fog, but it feels like torture during an unbelievably warm al fresco lunch. Maybe you set out for some late afternoon fresh air and found yourself shivering as soon as the sun set. Our solution: wrap up with a scarf for a simple and stylish layer of warmth you can easily stash in your bag if the weather changes. To help get you started, we've picked out some of our favorites for the ladies, including some pieces by Flying A in-house designer Sophia Costas.

UP CLOSE & PERSONAL: Alison Oliver Interview

Alison and her Sophia Costas collaboration scarf

From her sleek graphic design background to more recent illustration work, Alison Oliver is a doodler par excellence. The artist behind Sugar studio has elevated the sketchbook aesthetic to new levels with her swift hand and whimsical eye for color, finding inspiration in everything from farmers market produce to mid-century furniture. Her latest project, an eye-popping early childhood spin on literary classics, distills old school favorites down to create primers that are just as fun for babies as the adults who actually read them. And with more collaborations in the works (including a chic collection of scarves crafted with our favorite eco-friendly line Sophia Costas), it's safe to say she's a name you'll want to know. We sat down with Oliver for a brief tete-a-tete to learn more about her process and style. Check out the interview after the jump.

Five Surprising Ways to Wear a Summer Scarf

The Tube Top:
1. Fold your scarf in half so that the scarf remains the same length but skinnier.
2. Place the center of the folded scarf (with the folded edge upright) at the front of your chest and wrap the ends around your torso, creating a tube top.* The back should form a V.
3. Bring the two ends to the front and tie a simple knot. You can tie it however you wish, but we crossed the ends and tucked them under so that the knot was visible but the ends weren't.
* Take care to wrap your scarf tightly at this point, so that it doesn't slip. You can also fold down the folded edge of the scarf once more like we did to adjust to length.
